Description
Family photograph depicting a group of five figures: four women and one man posed within a richly appointed bourgeois interior. In the foreground, a young woman is seated on a gilt canapé, attired in a light dress of drop-waist silhouette. The dress features a V-shaped lapel collar, a continuous white cotton plastron adorned with decorative buttons, and cuffed sleeves; her shoes are of light fabric with a rounded toe and central bar closure. Beside her, an older woman is seated in a fauteuil, wearing a dark, long-sleeved draped dress with a white collar. To her right, a man stands in a dark three-piece suit comprising blazer, waistcoat, and trousers, paired with a white shirt and dark necktie. In the background, two young women sit upon the windowsill, dressed in light cotton dresses decorated with a floral motif and trimmed with white collars. The younger female figures wear short coiffures characteristic of the post-war 1920s, while the elder woman displays a high coiffure, reflecting the stylistic conventions of an earlier generation.

The photograph depicts the Warrain family. From left to right, the figures are identified as Arlette J. RYAN(1892-1987), wife of John RYAN; her sister Yvonne Marguerite WARRAIN (1893-1992), wife of Léon Cyprien FABRE; and their elder sister Marguerite L. BASCHET (1890-1979), wife of René Louis BASCHET. To the right stand their parents, Alix Henriette BAILLEHANCHE-LAMOTTE (1866-) and Francis WARRAIN(1867-1940), advocat who served as Chevalier of Legion d'Honeur (Honour Legion).
