Description
This postcard depicts a "before" and "now" representative of the evolution of fashion between the 1850s-60s (the "Crinoline era") and the 1910s, when the very narrow skirts and wide hats were the trend.
On the left, in a circle frame drawn by a pink ribbon is the profile of a woman wearing a very wide yellow crinolined dress with several rows of white ruffles,  as well as a yellow short-brimmed bonnet with pink roses at the crown.
On the right is a woman wearing a hat the width of the crinolined skirt, black with blue inside lining and a black feather, as well as a pink coat with a blue and black narrow skirt showing underneath, a white shawl and a green purse.
The artist regularly makes fun of his contemporary fashion, denouncing the unpracticality of the narrow "hobble" skirts.
