Description
This postcard depicts a woman wearing a blue dress with a heart-shaped neckline, an oversized and narrow pink hat adorned by a very large lighter pink feather.
This humoristic posctard denounces the unpractical fashion of "hobble skirts". These skirts, made fashionable by French designer Paul POIRET in the 1910s, were tightened mid-calves usually by a piece of fabric, and prevented women from having full use of their legs and feet, making them "hobble". The toilet seat on the postcard and the inscription which translates to " The New dress... Unexpected complication!" hint at the woman being unable to attend to her most basic needs because of her skirt.
