Description
Oil painting depicting the view from the terrace, on the Butte Montmartre side, of the couturier's apartment, above the Salle Pleyel in Paris. In the foreground, a table set with a white tablecloth with a wide blue stripe outlined in red, on which is placed a blue coffee service (coffee pot, milk jug, and sugar bowl) on a red tray.

On the back of the painting is a label from the Cardo gallery located at 61, avenue Kléber in Paris where Paul POIRET exhibited. Oil on canvas. Landscape painting depicting the view of Montmartre from the apartment of fashion designer Paul Poiret, located above Salle Pleyel. The view is on a terasse with a clothed table in the foreground. The table is set with blue tableware on a red platter. Signed lower right. Label of Galerie Cardo on back of frame.

Paul Poiret "King of Fashion" met financial ruin in 1929 and would go on to support himself as a street painter in his later years. Galerie Cardo was a prominant modern art gallery in Paris from the 1930s up to the 1970s showcasing artists such as Georges GIMEL, Augusto GIACOMETTI, Per EWERT, Joan MIRO.
