Description
A one sided embroidery pattern reference in color on gridded paper board from Mail Volume Five of the Magasin Des Demoiselles. This volume comprised of 380 pages including 14 fashion plates, 1 engraving, 6 tapestry plates, and 103 embroidery designs. Depicted here is a central pattern of a King Charles dog laying on a red gold tassled pillow surrounded by 5 smaller reference patterns: a side profile of a sitting dog, a gold chalice, a dove, the Lamb of God (Agnus Dei), a gold urn. The King Charles embroidery refers to Hector, Nero, and Dash with the parrot, Lory, painting by Sir Edwin Landseer, 1838. Queen Victoria's pets. This was a popular motif for the period. The heading centered along the top margin reads in small text "Magasin des Demoiselles" flanked on either side by a subscription notice of "10 Francs a year for Paris", "12 Francs for the Departements" in French.
