Description
Brown rectangular leather accordion folder with folding lid featuring a King Charles dog embroidered in silk on perforated pape set in frame with glass protector. Brass seashell clasp with key hole ornament comprised of two intertwined fish. Embossed leather back with scrolled vine and vase motifs. Red paper interior lining.
The embroidery refers to Hector, Nero, and Dash with the parrot, Lory, painting by Sir Edwin Landseer, 1838. Queen Victoria's pets. Lid inteior with printed black cyrillic text and a russian heraldic symbol of the Sleptsov (Слепцовы) Family, indicated to be for V.V. Klevezal. attributed to Pav. Vas. Sleptsov. Sleptsov (Слепцовы) are a russian noble family with mid 17th century origin. Klevezal (Клевезаль), likely the russian noble family of german uradel origin, belongs to the class of baronial and hereditary nobility of ancient pre-Petrine lineage. Both familys participated extensively in the Russian campaigns of the 19th century, namely Major General Nikolai Pavlovich Sleptsov (1815-1851) and Nikolay Efimovich Klevezal (1787-1864).
