Description
Business card of the painter Luis de la ROCHA and probably of his wife Jeanne ALGER. It mentions on the upper left corner "Hand decoration on fabrics".
At the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris in 1925, he obtained the honorary diploma, in the “clothing” category alongside the Russians Kitmir and MM Lamanoff or the Redfern and Weill houses. However, as suggested by an article entitled “Exhibition of hangings, screens and embroidered and painted cousins” published in Paris-Journal of Sunday January 4, 1920, the painting on fabric could rather be the work of his wife. The article clearly mentions her in the form Madame J. -E. -L. de la ROCHA (Jeanne Eduardo Luis de la ROCHA or the painter's wife. Thus Luis de la ROCHA would have rather executed paintings and drawings, while his wife would have produced the fashion items.
