Description
Photographic print from the 1950s, copy of an older photograph, probably from a photographer's lookbook taken during horse races at Longchamp. It is representing the Countess DE LA FALAISE photographed from the front, on the first step of a staircase leading to the gallery. She is wearing a skirt and suit set embroidered with woolly clouds, by Schiaparelli fashion house creation, and a hat adorned with a feather.

Henriette Lucie Frédérique HENNESSY, known as Comtesse DE LA FALAISE (1873-1965) is the great-granddaughter of James HENNESSY (1765-1843), founder of the eaux-de-vie "Jas Hennessy & Co." in Cognac and daughter of Jean Baptiste Richard HENNESSY (1836-1886) cognac merchant and his cousin Marthe Lucie Anne HENNESSY (1856-1941). Henriette married in 1893, Louis Venant Gabriel LE BAILLY DE LA FALAISE, Marquis DE LA COUDRAYE, known as Georges DE LA FALAISE (1866-1910), a French soldier and fencer, gold medalist at the Olympic Games in 1900 and 1906 By this marriage, she becomes Marquise DE LA FALAISE. Widowed in 1910, she married Count Antoine HOCQUART DE TURTOT, becoming Marquise DE LA FALAISE, Countess HOCQUART DE TURTOT. A socialite, she got involved in social work; Gold Medal of Public Assistance in 1927), Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1929); her name remains attached to the presidency of L'Abri Maternel in Paris, an association created in 1918 (and still active today), which originally came to the aid of young girl mothers, in these post-war years, by hosting, by fighting against the ravages of clandestine abortion and abandonment at birth. Countess DE LA FALAISE was a great client of the Schiaparelli fashion house. She is the mother-in-law of the model "Maxime de La Falaise", grandmother of Louise LE BAILLY DE LA FALAISE, better known as "Loulou de La Falaise", a model who became a jewelry designer for the couturier Yves SAINT LAURENT.
Henriette Lucie Frédérique HENNESSY, Countess DE LA FALAISE was also relative by family marriage to the young designer Christian DIOR (1905-1957) since Simon Aime DIOR had married Catherine HENNESSY.
