Description
Paper photograph representing a doll on a neutral background, wearing in an evening dress with leaf pattern and adorned with lace at the collar and waist.

This doll was exhibited in the scene entitled "Le Théâtre" (The Theater) imagined by the French painter Christian BERARD (1903-1971) also artistic director of the exhibition. The scene presents a total of 22 women in long evening dresses, on the stage as in a marble theater boxes. A huge red velvet stage curtain opens onto a beautiful starry night, a large crystal chandelier dominates the picture. Our photo shows the doll dressed by the designer Madeleine VRAMANT. It was published in a double page magazine, pages 22 and 23.

The "Théâtre de la Mode" was conceived as a traveling show, at the initiative of the Chambre syndicale de la haute couture parisienne (French trade association of high fashion), with the aim of promoting haute couture and related trades. The exhibition took place in Paris, at Pavillon de Marsan, from March 28 to April 29, 1945, then traveled the world until 1946. The presentation consists of fourteen decorated paintings under the artistic direction of Christian Bérard. The wire dolls were made by J St MARTIN from a drawing by Eliane BONABEl, the faces were molded from the sculptures of REBULL.
