Philip August FISCHER (Danish, Rudkøbing 1817 - 1907 Copenhagen)

Philip August FISCHER was a Danish 19th Century painter and varnish manufacturer. He was born in Rudkøbing on April 1, 1817, into a Jewish grocers family and later cattle ranchers. He tries to break with the family tradition and he began an artistic education at the Academy of Arts in Copenhagen, which he did not complete. FISCHER exhibited in Copenhagen at Charlottenburg Palace in 1843, 1851 and 1852. On June 2, 1853, he married a Swedish woman, Gustafva Albertina SVEDGREN, with whom he had two boys August, born March 11, 1854 and Paul, born July 22, 1860. With a family to feed, painter career dreams are shattered and Philip August FISCHER turn step by step to a business of painters products, especially into varnishs that will bring him financial stability. His two sons August and Paul successfully realize the dream of the father by becoming recognized painters, Paul in particular. Philip August FISCHER died in Copenhagen, August 12, 1907 and buried in Frederiksberg Elderly Cemetery.
