Tony SANDRO (1934 - 2005)
Tony SANDRO is the pseudonym of Jacques BENITA, a French singer and actor, best known for having been the last lover of fashion designer Christian DIOR.
Jacques BENITA is the son of Gilberte Désirée Eliane DELCAN and of Paul BENITA a non-commissioned officer stationed in Tabagt in Algeria. He was born on August 14, 1934 in Marseille (we sometimes find OUJDA, Morocco in 1930). He moved to Paris where his tenor voice found its place alongside the lesbian singer Suzy SOLIDOR in her cabaret on rue Balzac. In 1956, at the age of 22, he met Christian DIOR, then aged 51, with whom he became the lover. Unfortunately he died the following year in Italy. In 1965, he landed a second role in the Franco-Italian film "Agente 777 missione Summergame" (The Exterminators) where he took the pseudonym Tony SANDRO. He then participated in various French telefilms including The Man from Picardy in 1968, Morel's Invention in 1967 or the Investigations of Commissioner Maigret (1967). The popularity of this last telefilm will contribute to a small notoriety. In 1971, he tried his hand at the song with the title "Ou est le soleil". Unfortunately, he will not be successful and will disappear from the scene. He died in Paris on June 2, 2005 and is best known for having been the lover of fashion designer Christian DIOR.
