Gustave COSSON (French, Saint-Dizier 1824 - 1896 Bar-le-Duc)

Gustave COSSON, born in Saint-Dizier (Haute-Marne, France) on December 18, 1824 and died in Bar-le-Duc (Meuse) on May 8, 1896 (aged 71), is a French photographer who practiced under the name of artist of "Gustave" first in Paris from 1844 to 1855, then in Le Mans (Sarthe) from 1856 to his death. While he left over 55,000 portraits in family albums, there are no known portraits of him or his family. Gustave COSSON has created a branch in Châlons-sur-Marne (Marne). He introduced Jean TOUZERY , his brother-in-law, 14 years his junior, to photography. The latter founded a photographic studio in Orléans (Loiret) and worked under the name of "Gustave Jeune".
