Description
Three quarter photograph representing a woman posing, leaning on a standtable. She wears a crinoline dress with ruffle , a wide neckline and the half-open arms suggesting that it is an evening dress. The volume of the dress projected towards the back and the hair cut announcing the tournure fashion comming after 1870.
The woman is known as Leila Flora MAC DONALD (1838 - 1889), daughter of the Infantry Captain of the British Army in India, Allen Ronald MAC DONALD. She was born in Sultanpore, India, June 29, 1838. She married January 19, 1863, François Certain De CANROBERT, Marshal of France. The couple had the Château de l'Églantine built in Jouy-en-Josas, where the "Maréchale de Canrobert" who died on August 6, 1899. The Jouy canvas museum has been located within the Château de l'Églantine since 1977 .
