Description
Photographic portrait of a young woman posing with a cigarette and wearing a long dark colored sleeveless dress.
The lady is presumed to be Emma Olga Ilse KARGER (1901-1980) around the age of 30. She is the wife of the mathematician Richard BRAUER (1901-1977) whom she married in Berlin on September 17, 1925. Richard BRAUER taught at Albertus University in Königsberg until the spring of 1933, when he lost his position after the transfer of power to the National Socialists. The family immigrated to America. Its name is today attached to number theory. He was the founder of the theory of modular representations.
