Description
Long traditional Russian blouse in embroidered cotton used as a seaside gown inspired by the popularity of the Ballets Russes. Dress in cross stitch embroidery on a cream cotton background, puffed sleeves, gathered at the neck and cuffs, accompanied by its embroidered handkerchief. This type of dress, derived from Russian sarafans and roubashkas, and remodeled by French fashionistas, was brought into fashion by the Ballets Russes, in this case resembing to the costumes of The Rite of Spring, ballet and orchestral concert work by the Russian composer Igor STRAVINSKY written for the 1913 Paris season of Sergei DIAGHILEV's Ballets Russes company.
