Description
Brass lapel pin composed of a small rod topped with a natural Chrysochroinae type beetle. It comes in its original case on a layer of wadding.
The study of insects was first linked to agriculture, to then take a more scientific aspect around the 18th century. Insectology then became a fashionable subject, particularly following the work of great scientists. In the 19th century, entomology develops and coleoteres will be the subjects of interest of a large number of amateur naturalists and scientists. It was then fashionable to have a naturalized collection, mainly butterflies and beetles. But the discovery of an ever greater number of species and the increasing complexity of knowledge led, from the beginning of the 20th century, to the virtual disappearance of this fashion trend.
