Description
Framed pastel drawing representing Marie TORRENT born MORIN, wife of the alderman of Lyon, Antoine TORRENT. She wears short and powdery hair adorned with fresh flowers and dressed in a blue silk velvet dress, embelliched with fur on the edges of the collar and sleeves. The cream-colored bodice is trimmed with a large bow at the top.
Marie TORRENT comes from a wealthy bourgeois merchant family originally from Lyon. His father Vincent MORIN was the a prévôt of the merchants of Lyon ( the highest-ranking official in a municipal govemment). This pair of portraits was certainly made for their wedding.
