Description
Empire period belt buckle consisting of two small brass pieces adorned on its circumference with coral pearls with one in center. Ancient property of Madame BERENGER, represented on the painting wearing this buckle.
This type of belt buckle was mounted on a fabric ribbon identical to the dress that it adorned and could be easily unstitched to be reassembled on another ribbon. The belt buckles from this period were genuine jewelry sold in a set boxes. Usually these parure boxes consisted of a tiara, a pair of earrings, a pair of bracelets, also sometimes was possible to found a belt buckles, a brooch, a ring and some other parure accessories.
