Fan of painted pleated vellum with 16 ebony and ivory sticks. Painted with a scene in black monochrome representing a well drressed noble woman and a man near what looks like a grave or a stone pedestal. Like most mourning fans of this period, it is painted in grisaille (grey wash) and light touches of gold, with sober vegetal and floral ornaments. The sticks of ivory and ebony wood are appropriately simple and subdued in decoration.Materials
