Description
Engraved portrait of the Empress Josephine, wife of Napoleon Bonaparte, in coronation dress after the portrait of Francois GERARD. The empress wears the grand coronation gown, designed, like that of the Emperor, by Isabey and Percier and featured a large purple velvet coat strewn with golden bees produced by the fashion house Leroy and Rimbaud; in the embroidery are entwined branches of laurel, oak and olive which surround the letter "N". The lining and border are in ermine. The coat is attached to the left shoulder and supported by a belt clip on the left side. The dress is strewn with golden bees. The bodice and the top of the sleeves are enriched with diamonds, the tiara, the necklace and the earrings are in engraved stones, surrounded by brilliants: the collar is in gold Brussels lamé lace.
