Description
Pressed-molded glass perfume bottle in cylindrical shape decorated with faceted triangles partly enamelled in golden color. A black bakelite cap, depicting a stylized cocked hat, completes the bottle.
The design was conceived by the artist Maria Vassilief (1884-1957), its execution by the glass sculptor Julien Viard (1883-1938), and the perfume was designed by Henri Alméras (1892-1965). Arlequinade by Rosine was launched in France in 1919. Its name was influenced by the painting made in 1917 by the Spanish painter Pablo PICASSO. The painter and Paul POIRET had begun a friendship as early as 1916 and allowed the young Spanish painter to present in the Parisian designer salons a painting named "El Burdel de Aviñón". This exhibition known today as "Salon d'Antin" Modern Art in France was organized by André Salmon from 16 to 31 July 1916. The famous painting change it's name for this event. The bottle was made by Julien VIARD who was inspired by the "Endless Column" of Constantin Brâncuşi and the smell by Henri ALMERAS . When it was launched in the United States in 1923, the design of the bottle was reworked by Marie VASSILIEFF and took on a red, gold and black color.
The two flasks (from 1919 ot the last from 1923), had two variants. They could, or not, have a small pompom attached to the neck. This pompom could be golden, orange or red color.
