Description
Oil on canvas portrait of a Spanish Riding School officer in black uniform featuring a high collar and a triangular plastron buttoned on either side with round silver buttons. He holds a black cane topped with a silver head, with his thumb tucked into his plastron. He sports a moustache and comb over, and wears a black cravat.
The Spanische Hofreitschule (Spanish Riding School) is one of Austrian's most notable institutions. Founded in 1572, it is based in Vienna and is part of the Hofburg Palace. This riding school is one of the most prestigious classical riding academies in the world, alongside the Cadre Noir, the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art, and the Royal Andalusian School.
