Description
Photograph of the Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna of Russia the Younger in a dress from her textile house Kitmir, at the Art Deco Exhibition in Paris, Grand Palais, 1925. The dress includes a jacket and features a bold geometric design with silk belt and trim. A pearl necklace adorns her neck.

Maria Pavlovna the Younger (1890-1958) was a Russian grand duchess, the daughter of Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovich, youngest son of Tsar Alexander II, and Princess Alexandra of Greece. A prominent figure in the Romanov exile community after the Russian Revolution, she lived in Europe and the U.S., where she worked as a fashion designer and wrote a memoir, Education of a Princess (1930). Kitmir was a Parisian textile house co-founded by Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna the Younger in the 1920s, renowned for its exquisite Russian-inspired embroideries favored by haute couture designers like Coco CHANEL.
