Portrait of a peasant wearing a short toga and holding a tiara comb.
Known as the "Canton School", these rice paper paintings depicting characters, insects or butterflies, boats or, as here, scenes from everyday life in China, were made by specialized craftsmen who produced them in great amount between 1850 and 1930 to be taken by tourists or foreign sailors.
