Description
Box made in cardboard and verre églomisé, with a lid treated with reverse glass painting technique representing a medieval scene. A mercury mirror is under the lid. This type of box could be used as jewellery box, sewing kit or even as a box for dragée.

Although the medieval scene and the so-called tomb form were very fashionable from the beginning of the reign of Charles X, the return of the ashes of Napoleon in 1840 revived this egouement. The green colour used for the églomisé is reminiscent of the colour and appearance of the emerald. This colour was very popular and especially for upholstering the inside of books and boxes or the backs of the first daguerreotypes.
