Description
‘The Original Ballet Russe‘ company cadet costume for the ballet ‘Graduation Ball’. 
Double-breasted red wool tailcoat worn by David LICHINE (1910–1972) with lamé trimmed collar, cuffs, and lamé lined tails.

‘Graduation Ball’ is a ballet in one act choreographed by David LICHINE to music composed by Johann Strauss II and arranged by Antal Doráti. With a scenario devised by Lichine and with scenery and costumes designed by Alexandre Benois, it was first presented by the Original Ballet Russe at the Theatre Royal, Sydney, Australia, on 1 March 1940. On the subsequent Australian tour, it was performed more than sixty times. David Lichine’s costume, trimmed in gold lamé, was worn in for the "Perpetuum Mobile" pas de deux performed by Tatiana Riabouchinska and Lichine.
