Description
Studio portrait representing the French music hall artist Mistinguett, draped in a fabric leaving her shoulders bare. She wears a traditional Peruvian chullo on her head. The photograph is dedicated “To my friend Willy MICHEL with sympathy”
Willy MICHEL (1905-1976) was the protégé of the art critic and photographer Henri MARTINIE (1881-1963). In the summer of 1928, MICHEL had a photo booth camera brought from the United States and installed in a studio located at 26 Boulevard des Italians in Paris. He produced series there, for nearly 20 years, accompanied by French personalities focused on the writers, dancers, actors and artists thus becoming a particularly popular photographer personality in France in the 1930s-1940s.
