Description
Costume silhouette consisting of a hat, a doublet and tights. The headdress is made of black felt decorated with black and burgundy ostrich feathers and under which is attached a type of helmet made by a piece of burgundy jersey. The doublet is made of black velvet and with the same burgundy lamé jersey from the hat to create the puffed sleeves. The shoulders are exaggerated to create wings reminiscent of those of a dragon ending under the arm and made on top in black velvet and below in copper-colored lamé. The set features burgundy colored dance leotard pants.
This costume was designed by Marcel ESCOFFIER, made by the sewing workshops of the Paris National Opera.
It was worn for the first time by the soloist and principal dancer Lucien DUTHOIT for his role of Rothbart in the ballet "Swan Lake" presented at the Paris National Opera, Palais Garnier, in 1973 and choreographed by Vladimir BOURMEISTER. The ballet was reassembled in 1985 and the costume was then worn by the star dancer Georges PILETTA and the dancers Jocelyn BOSSER and Francis MALOVIK.
