Description
Caricature representing a man wearing a borsalino-type hat and smoking a cigar. He is dressed in light colored pants and blue stripes with a purple striped shirt and a red striped tie. The whole outfit is worn with a white jacket, which hangs from a chain, a heart-shaped pocket watch and a black jacket decorated with an eyelet at the buttonhole. The man carries binoculars in their brown leather sheath in his right hand and a cane in his left hand. He is known to be the future King Edward VII, then Prince of Wales, in February 1896, as being seen by the artist Ferdinand BAC during a lunch in his company and those of Lady de GRAY (Gwladys ROBINSON), Mme de FOUGERES, Mme de FITZ-JAURES and two orthers persons from Monte Carlo. The drawing is widely commented on from both sides of the head by the artist, contextualizing the cartoon. It is notably indicated that the hat comes from the brand “Incroyable” in Paris.
