Description
Women tunic made of a piece of blue silk, adorned with butterflies and chrysanthemums, and lined with a pink braid embroidered with fish. At the top and the bottom of this blue piece, two black silk pieces framed with white embroidered braid are sewn. The sleeves are made of blue and pink silk, lined with green embroidered braids. Two glass beads are forming the overlapping closing system.

Chrysanthemum has a deep symbolism in confucianist beliefs, it is one of the "four gentlemen" plants symbolizing virtues. Butterfly is deeply linked to taoïsm through the fable of the Dreaming Butterfly, written by Zhuangzi, a widely-known narrative in China.

This item makes part of a ensemble donated by Christophe DUBOIS RUBIO, which was formerly belonging to Russian poet Larissa ANDERSEN (1916-2012). She spent her youth years in China, then lived in Tahiti and Saïgon. She settled in Yssingeaux (France) for her retirement.
