Description
Tsuba-shaped kobako box made of brass, decorated on all sides by copper patterns in relief. Three sides are displaying vegetal still-lifes, and one side a flying crane. On the lid, a scene with flowers and an owl is depicted in bas-relief in a copper foil.

Kobako boxes were small boxes produced in Japan during the Meiji era (1868-1912) for jewels, onguents or medication. They made part of products sold to Europeans during the Expositions Universelles.
