Description
Mask for Harlequin, with holes for the eyes and nose, the facial features hastily painted on the white base in red and black. The caracter has grimacing lips, raised eyebrows and downwarding turning eyes.

Former personal collection of the dancer and choreographer Serge LIFAR. Belong to a set of at least 3 other masks inspired from commedie dell'arte characters. There is no proof that this set was ever used for a ballet, but due to their provenance from LIFAR's collection, it is not entirely improbable. The simple design and the quality of execution makes it less likely that they were used in a Venetian carnival or bought as decoration.
