Description
Paper photograph of Christian DIOR with Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon (1930 – 2002), at his fashion show in Blenheim Palace, when his Paris winter collection was shown there in November 1954, a benefit which raised money for the Red Cross. Christian DIOR is wearing a dark suit with a light collared dress shirt, and tie. Princess Margaret is wearing a black velvet gown and a mink shawl around her shoulders. She has a white animal fur fascinator and her dark gloves in hand. This photograph was taken just after Princess Margaret presented Dior with a scroll entitling him to honorary life membership of the British Red Cross.
Christian DIOR’s relationship with the royal family began in Paris in 1949, by request, a year after their meeting, DIOR presented a private fashion show for the Queen, Princess Elizabeth, and Margaret in London. In 1951, Dior designed Princess Margaret’s 21st birthday gown.
