Oval ambrotype portrait of a young child wearing a dark dress with three-quarter balloon sleeves, six buttons down the bodice, and a pleated skirt attached to the bodice. Encasing the buttons are two vertical lines of fabric detailing, and three rows of matching detailing encircles the skirt hem. The child is wearing dark shoes with shoe laces and their straight hair is cut short with a side part on the left of their head. They are sitting in a wooden chair next to a dark object with a flat top.The portrait comes in a black paper mâché box that is fastened by a brass hook clasp. The top of the box is lined with red velvet with floral motifs carved into it. Encircling the portrait is a golden plate with floral motifs carved into the plate. Framing the plate is a golden frame with zig-zag line and dot detailing, as well as floral detailing in the corners.
