Collodion positive on glass representing a family composing of three women and a boy. The photography is set infront of a black piece of paper and under a glodend mat, all sealed in a glass frame of dark brown and cream imitating tortoiseshell.From top to bottom and right to left : A young man is wearing a single-breasted semi-fitted jacket with a light white cravat. To his left is a middle age woman wearing a dark gown with a brooch on the collar, buttons going down the bodice, a belt around her waist, and jacket sleeves. Her hair is parted in the middle and worn tightly back. In front of the boy is a middle age woman wearing a garibaldi dark shirtwaist and skirt with a thick belt around her waist. Her hair is parted in the middle and worn in buns above her ears. To her left is a young woman wearing a lightly-hued daytime bodice with buttons going down the high neckline. The bodice has “pagoda” bell sleeves with ruffles at the wrists and shoulder seam. The shoulder seam is below her natural shoulder line. The bodice is tight around her waist from a corset which creates a short bell silhouette with her skirt and cage crinoline.
