Description
Paper photograph depicting a star model and parachute jumping champion, Colette DUVAL (1930-1988) capping Saint Catherine. She is wearing a festive hat for St.Catherine's Day 1955. In honor of her profession, the hat is made with a female figurine attached to a parachute above which hangs an airplane. The figurine is seated in such a way as to represent that it is landing on a tray representing a runway at Orly airport which constitutes the base of the hat.
Colette Louise DUVAL was born on July 28, 1930 in Ruesnes, a French town located in the Nord department. Colette was a multi talented woman, she was a leading fashion model for Dior, a record holding parachute jumper and an actress. In 1951, at age 21, she started skydiving. On August 28, 1955 above Cannes, she jumped from an altitude of about 8,600 meters from an airplane but she almost drowned. His record will not be approved for lack of precision on the exact height of his jump. She also began a career as a high fashion model. She married the stuntman Gil Delamare (1924-1966) whose real name was Gilbert Yves de La MARE de la VILLENAISE de CHENEVARIN (Family of the Norman nobility). The couple having started a very publicized relationship in 1956. They will make several performances together, notably in 1958, a night jump, from a height of 7,000 meters in Blida, in French Algeria. The same year, she began a film career in the film "A bullet in the barrel" by Michel Deville and Charles Gérard. Her last film will be "Sauve-toi, Lola" by Michel Drach shot two years before her death. Colette DUVAL-de La MARE de la VILLENAISE de CHENEVARIN died of cancer on May 22, 1988 in La Garenne-Colombes at the age of 57.
