Description
Paper photograph of a Parisian model of Maison Dalmayer, destined for a German and British magazines, with a printed on tracing paper explanatory text in German, French and English. The photograph shows a young woman dressed in a everyday gown, consisting of a separated bodice and a not matching skirt. The skirt is of purplish blue in soft thin cloth, trimmed with five double rows of taffeta in the same shade. The bodice is of heavy cream Irish lace on white taffeta, with no trimming but a broad shoulder fichu. The wide loose sleeves are gathered in to a narrow tight cuff over the hand. A chainlink belt of the copperish gold metal, a medallion, side combs of the same material, and a pearl necklace and earrings parure, finish the look.

Although the thoroughly well-dressed woman from a higher society of the early 1900s was not supposed to wear the separate waist on the street, or on formal occasions, there were many uses for which it was indispensable, and therefore it found its place in many examples among her wardrobe each season.
