Description
Cabinet format autographed photograph depicting a young woman, a famous Italian actress, Eleonora Giulia Amalia DUSE (1858 – 1924), often known simply as "Duse". She is represented in a scene costume for the role of Cleopatra in "Antonio e Cleopatra", a theater piece, fruit of artistic collaboration between the actress and the writer Arrigo BOITO, one of the three Shakespearean plays that BOITO translated and adapted to Eleonora DUSE’s stage presence and style of performance.

The costume consists of an Egypt style simple dress, richly decorated with pearl necklaces, a belt with multiple rangs of hanging pearls, embellished with beads and rhinestones, pair of metal cuff bracelets with round stones, pearl rings, an elaborated headdress with a stylized flying scarab crown on the forehead, and the veil on the back.
