Description
Small oval cardboard cosmetic box, containing a loose make-up powder pigment of pale green colour. The box is embellished on the lid with a colourful engraving representing a red rooster with blue wings and green tail, with a pink flower on the right and a blue flower on the left. The image is surrounded with a golden frame, and the sides are covered with orange paper embossed with golden circles forming stylized crosses.

After the French Revolution, make-up was frowned upon and was reserved only for prostitutes and actresses. Nevertheless, the discovery in 1856 of the first synthetic dye changed the practice forever. Indeed, before that, natural dyes of vegetable or animal origin were used, and the synthetic dye allowed a significant reduction in manufacturing costs. A considerable advantage for the make-up industry, which only grew thanks to advertising.
