Description
Charcoal and chalk drawing on dark background representing a portrait of a young woman in a short sleeved dress with high Empire style waistline accentuated under the chest with a large belt with a rectangular buckle. The lady is sitting in a chair, holding a white kerchief, wearing a turban on her head, and a pearl set of jewellery consisting of a two strand necklace and a pair of earrings. The woman is known as Pierrette-Marie SIMONET (1791 - 1870), married to André-Jacques ORSEL (1784 - 1868), the elder brother of the author of this artwork, mayor of Tarare, then of Oulins, general councilor of the Rhône department
