Description
Watercolour painting sketch representing a couple, man and woman, known as the zazous. The man is wearing a bright blue pant suit with a white shirt, a black tie, and sunglasses. The lady is wearing a red jacket with black buttons, a short striped skirt with some tartan pattern, a black blouse, a pair of high platform shoes, and sunglasses. Her hair is blonde with updo moment of the top, and she is leaning on an umbrella.
The zazous were a subculture in France during World War II. During the Occupation, the Zazous displayed an "I don't care" attitude, carefree with regard to the tragedies of the war, and suspicious of the authorities, whether German or French. They were young people expressing their individuality by wearing big or garish clothing and dancing wildly to swing jazz. Men wore large striped lumber jackets, while women wore short skirts, striped stockings and heavy shoes, and often carried umbrellas.
