Elio BERHANYER (Spanish, Cordoba 1929– 2019 Madrid)

Elio Berenguer Ubeda (Córdoba, 20 of February of 1929 - Madrid, 24 of January of 2019), known worldwide as Elio BERHANYER was a Spanish fashion designer. He began his career in fashion in 1956 and in haute couture in 1960. He dressed personalities such as Queen Sofia, Infanta Doña Pilar, Ava Gardner and Cyd Charisse. In the development of his work he has designed costumes for various plays , such as Rings for a lady. He also designed the uniforms for Iberia , Ifema and RTVE and the hostesses for the 1982 FIFA World Cup. He taught at the fashion department at the University of Córdoba . Elio Berhanyer: 50 years of fashion was an exhibition inaugurated by the Minister of Culture in December 2008 with more than 100 models of costumes and accessories at the Museo del Traje de Madrid. In 2013, TVE presented a documentary about his career as a design teacher. He died on January 24, 2019 in Madrid at 89 years of age.
