Dore Dore (French, founded 1862)

Doré Doré , known as DD, is a French brand of socks and tights. It begins around 1819 with Jean Baptiste Doré; The craftsman suggests to his peasant neighbors to buy all yarns from a little town near the Seine named Fontain les Grés; where people craft hosiery at home. The actual brand DD Doré Doré was established in 1862, when two stirps started to carry on the business together after a marriage. Already one year later the first Cotton machines where in use and the industrial mass production started. At the World Exhibition 1867 in Paris the company Doré Doré was awarded with a gold medal. In 1880 the company opened their first store in Paris to extend the sales. The quantity of staff grows to more than 1000 employees. In 1936 Doré Doré started to use modern double cylinder knitting machines. The plant in Fontaine-les-Grès , France, closed in 2011. 48 people are fired. The production of socks and high-end tights is transferred to Italy.
