Maison Lapersonne (French, ca. 1868 - ca. 1934)

Maison Lapersonne, also known as Grands magasins Lapersonne, was a department store situated at place Esquirol in Toulouse, France, very popular in the 2nd half of the 19th century - beginning of the 20th century. In 1850, the ladies came to find all the necessary for their toilet. It is the first department store in Toulouse (it has grown as and when), a pioneer in its field and model of the great Parisian trade that is behind the spread of this new type of commerce in the province. Emmanuel BOURGEAT, who then runs the department store Lapersonne alone, started in Toulouse at the end of the Second Empire. In 1868 he had partnered with sirs BESSIERES and OUSTALET to exploit "La Maison Lapersonne", a store of silk, lingeries and fabrics on rue de la Trinité, which had gradually colonized a large part of the block to present collections ever more abundant. Emmanuel BOURGEAT pursues this policy and quickly makes Lapersonne the first true department store in Toulouse. Behind its new facade on Place Esquirol (created with the opening of the first section of the rue de Metz), the store is a "hive where many employees swarm up and down the stairs". BOURGEAT has diversified the offer: all the confection now and also furniture and decoration, all manufactured on site to have the lowest prices. BOURGEAT also looks after commercial services. February 1934, Lapersonne Department Stores disappear in a gigantic fire in the afternoon.
