House of Pierre Cardin (French, founded 1950)

The House of Cardin was founded in 1950 by Pierre CARDIN. Christian Dior's first tailor when he opened in December 1946, Pierre Cardin participated in the success of the "tailor's bar", which according to Harper's Bazaar, defines the new look of Christian Dior. He leaves the house Dior on a whim three years later. In 1950, at 10 rue Richepanse, he bought the house Pascaud, specialized in stage costumes, and opened his own fashion house. He will thus keep his double creative activity: stage costumes as well as haute couture creations later. He creates costumes for balls, sumptuous festivals after the war, next to coats and tailors, his specialty. Gradually, his clientele is growing. His first collection was born three years later in 1953. He showed at rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré coats and tailors of an impeccable cut, associating inventiveness and sense of detail. Four years later, he triumphed with the presentation of a collection of 120 pieces of clothing and became a member of the Chambre syndicale de la couture.
