House of Babani (French, 1894 - 1940 )

Babani, founded in Paris in 1894 by Vitali BABANI, was a fashion house based on the Boulevard Haussmann specialising in imported exotic goods, including artworks and handicrafts, and from the 1910s onwards, original garments inspired by their imported merchandise. The business closed in 1940. Located at 98, boulevard Haussmann, the Babani store was specialized in the creation of exotic dresses and negligees for sale in the years 1910 and 1920 with the creations of Fortuny and Liberty fabrics, in addition to its own models. The house was particularly important for the creation of Japanese dresses. Babani House then has workshops abroad and especially in Kyoto. In the 1920s, the house remains famous for its kimonos. The bills of the house then display the following specialties: Kimonos, Textiles, Oriental Dresses. BABANI tells in his advertisements of the 1920s that his creations are "inspired by all the Orients" but stay "Parisian" and designed with "original materials". Fashion activities are led by Vitali BABANI and after by Maurice BABANI. The following personalities are among the guests of the house: Countess GREFFULHE, Eleonora DUSE, Joaquin SOROLLA, Eleonora SEARS or Katharine HEPBURN.
