Fernande CORMIER (French, Toulon 1888– 1964 Sanary)
Fernande Cormier is a French painter born November 17, 1888 in Toulon (Var) and died August 15, 1964 in Sanary (Var). Painter of portraits and oriental subjects. She was the student of Fernand Humbert and Emile Renard at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 1913 and became a member, and won second medal 1920 and 1937 at the World Expo. She also exhibited at the Salon d'Automne (1919-1926) and the Salon des Tuileries (1927-1929). She also participated in the exhibitions of FAM (Femmes Artistes Modernes) in 1935-1936 and 1938.
Rare for a woman of her time, she was 1st Second Prix de Rome in 1919.
She traveled to Fez and exhibited her Moroccan paintings in 1926. Linked to Provence her native region, she made sets for the foyer of the Toulon Opera. She also made sets for the town hall of Vincennes around 1932-1935.
