Vichy Laboratoires (French, founded 1931)

The history of the Vichy brand began in 1931 at Vichy, with the meeting of Georges GUERIN, who directed the Perfumes Grenoville and Dr. Prosper HALLER. The first suffers from an open wound on the foot, which heals quickly, thanks to the thermal water - called Lucas water. Dr. HALLER, doctor of the spas is ahead for his time, in terms of nutrition, well-being and above all, to understand the amazing properties of thermal baths on injured skin. Their meeting, at the crossroads of two worlds, that of beauty and health, will give birth to the brand Vichy. Considering the skin as a vital organ, they decide to use the cosmetics the rigor of medical research. In 1931, they founded the Dermatological Hygiene Company Vichy and developped the Secrets of Vichy, who prepares a special cream for each skin type, oily or dry. They also invented the indications by type skin. The 8 secrets of Vichy will have a long life until the 70's! Vichy will always base its products on scientific research to develop its active ingredients, except of course the thermal water. This water, capable of purifying and supporting the skin, is also from a series of high-performance treatments, which have assured Vichy some of its notoriety. In the 1950s, L'Oréal bought this 20-year-old brand. Starting in 1955, Vichy, renowned for the seriousness of its products, is distributed exclusively in pharmacy: it is the birth of dermocosmetics. L'Oréal's idea was to propose the pharmacists to take care of their customers on the beauty side, by being the best prescribers of the brand. They become true beauty professionals, consultants and experts in cosmetic research. This collaboration enables Vichy to use products from medical and pharmacy-inspired processes. The ultra-medicalization of the 80s and 90s contributes to the growth of the brand. Vichy multiplies patents, confirming its scientific creativity.
