House of Jean Paul Gaultier (French, founded 1974)

House of Jean Paul Gaultier was founded in 1974 by Jean Paul GAULTIER (French, Bagneux 1952 - ). After his many experiences in Houses of Pierre Cardin, Jacques Esterel, Jean Patou he launches his first collection under his name. It catches the attention, made of "everything and nothing", but becomes a commercial failure. But the Japanese group Kashiyama offers him financial support and Jean Paul GAULTIER returns to success. In the 1980s, a major figure in this wave of young designers who revolutionize fashion, he becomes unavoidable. His spectacular fashion show, one after the other, overturn the conventions of clothing. A great professional in cutting and master of Couture classics, creative and not only provocative, his collections also sometimes mix humor and diversions. The marinière, one of his symbols, is present since 1983 at his first men's collection, and two years later he launches the first skirt for men. In the 1990s, Jean Paul Gaultier Parfums was born. In 2004, Jean Paul Gaultier led, in parallel with activities in his name, the creation of the ready-to-wear for the house of Hermès for six years. Over the years, he also launched complementary lines such as Junior Gaultier, Gaultier Jean, JPG, or the unisex Gaultier line, as well as a luxurious lingerie collection with the Italian manufacturer La Perla.
