House of Gemey (American/French, founded 1923)

The American society Gemey was founded in 1923 as at first a daughter company of the cosmetics and perfume House of Richard Hudnut, who first launched a perfume "Gemey" in 1923 and than started to produce other cosmetic products with its fragrance. Gemey appears the first time in France with the cosmetic « Pancake », a make-up base. The brand extend its collection to make-up bases, powders and face-cares. In 1954 Gemey creates the first fluid make-up base «  Fluid Make Up ». The first compact powder was launch in 1956 and was named « Dernière touche ». In 1973 the society was bought by the french group L'Oréal. During 1976 L'Oréal also bought the mascara brand « Ricils ». In 1998 the brands Gemey Paris and Maybelline New York (also the property of the L'Oréal group) had decided to merge together. It became Gemey- Maybelline.
